Technical Overview

EN8D is commonly aligned to C45 medium carbon steel and is suitable for nuts/bolts, shafts, spindles, couplings and general engineering parts.

Machinability & Welding

  • Machinability: Moderate. Use appropriate inserts (P20–P30), cutting oil/coolant, and rigid setups.
  • Weldability: Limited (risk of HAZ cracking). If unavoidable, preheat ~ 150–250°C and perform PWHT per WPS.

Heat Treatment Support

Normalising for grain refinement and Q&T to achieve target hardness/strength bands suitable for service conditions.
